Peter Held

Peter Held (Brass Instruments) graduated from the Wheaton Conservatory of Music with a degree in Music Education and a K-12 Illinois Teaching License. As a student of the French Horn from the age of 11, he has had the opportunity to study under a number of private teachers who play in professional orchestras (Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra). He also has had many opportunities to perform in a variety of venues ranging from small churches in southern USA to Symphony Center in Chicago.

In 2006 Peter had the opportunity to perform with the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra as a guest musician, and he also had the privilege of playing under the direction of Maestro John Nelson, the conductor of France's premier chamber orchestra, both in 2008 and in 2010. He is a regular member of his church's worship orchestra and plays at other Chicago area churches on occasion.

Peter has a passion for teaching and has taught music in many contexts; from large ensembles in high schools and middle schools to individual private lessons. He is currently the Music Director and Dean of Academics at Christian Liberty Academy. His goal in teaching private lessons is to awaken a passion for music in his students which will accentuate, change, or even define the rest of their lives. By encouraging discipline, commitment and perseverance in music, Peter strives to bring out the best in his students and help them grow not only as musicians, but as people.

Outside of music Peter has also had the opportunity to: spend three years serving the church as the Director of Youth Ministries, spend some summers cutting trees in the north woods of Minnesota, and marry the love of his life in 2013. He and his wife currently live in Arlington Heights. Peter has been a member of the Breaking Grounds in Music teaching staff since early 2012 and recently became one of our master class teachers.
