Abbey Atwater

Abbey Atwater is an active freelancing clarinetist currently based in Chicago. She has ranked highly and received recognition in several competitions including solo performances of Carl Maria von Weber’s Concertino with the Waukesha Area Symphonic Band in 2015 and Michael Daugherty’s Brooklyn Bridge with the Lawrence University Wind Ensemble in 2019. On the national level, Abbey has been a semi-finalist for auditions held by the Hartford Symphony, Arkansas Symphony, and Lexington Philharmonic. Abbey has performed with many orchestras in and around the Philadelphia metro area including the Bucks County Symphony, Abington Symphony, Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey, and Southeastern Pennsylvania Symphony. Upon moving to Chicago in 2024, she has performed with the Chicago Clarinet Ensemble, LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra, and Chicago Wind Symphony. She has attended multiple music festivals including the Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy in 2016, Monteux School and Music Festival in 2019, and National Music Festival in 2022. Additionally, she has performed in master classes for renowned artists such as Julian Bliss, David Shifrin, Stephen Williamson, John Yeh, and Imani Winds. Abbey is a graduate of Temple University where she completed her M.M. studying under Paul Demers of the Philadelphia Orchestra. She previously received her B.M. from Lawrence University where she majored in clarinet performance, studying with David Bell, and minored in psychology and woodwind pedagogy. Previous teachers have also included Dan Roberdeau, Orlando Pimentel, and Rose Sperrazza.
